I always check the lobe taper on new flat-tappet camshafts to make sure they have adequate taper, as I prefer. Chevys are easy because the journals are all the same diameter. I lay them on the mill table and use a tenth indicator with a stem that fits in a collet. I put unequal diameter cams in the lathe and mount the indicator on the compound. I’ve found some under .0005, which would be a problem. I had two last month on the same order, and they sent a call tag and did them over.
