LUBRICATING LARD

Using Lard as a Drill Lubricant

I once worked for Roy Johnson’s Automotive Machine Shop. This is where I was introduced to the use of common cooking lard as a lubricant when drilling on steel. Yes that’s right, now you’re cooking with “Bacon” in the shop. The use of the lard makes cutting clean, there’s less chatter and it increases the life span of your drill bits by almost 30%. So, grab your wife’s little container on the stove and take it to the shop and try it. You’ll be amazed and yes, the shop will smell better. Everything that smells like bacon is better.
