MARK THE BEARINGS

Mar 16, 2026 | BLOCK WORK

Close-up of a cam bearing

When I’m working on something other than the familiar V8s, I mark the cam bearings with a scribe to indicate their location and orientation. Also, I’ll measure how far they are in from the front and back, and note the center bearings. It sure helps when the time comes to install them. I also stamp a small x by every plug removed and bag them to go with the block on its journey thru the shop. Most of us know some jobs hang around for weeks to months, and memory can’t do everything.
