When I’m installing intakes using a composition gasket, I lightly coat the inside of the water ports with RTV gasket sealer. This prevents the coolant from soaking into the gasket and leaking over time. I use gasket sealant instead of gasket maker to allow the manifold to be removed if needed, for lifter service or inspection. It releases cleanly and can be reused. It’s a real time-saver with trim-to-fit gaskets. I’ve reused them four to five times without issue. Gasket maker is better for end rail gaps because it’s a harder-curing material. It’s very sticky and will adhere much more aggressively.
