CHECK THE LEVEL

aftermarket oil pan capacity measurement

I’ve never trusted aftermarket pan volumes. If you are using the factory dipstick and tube, it’s not an issue, but with aftermarket or locking dipsticks, it’s a guess at best. I set a factory oil pan and the aftermarket pan between milk crates. I put 4 qts. in the stock pan, then filled the aftermarket one to the same height from the pan rail. This 6 qt pan took just over 4-1/2 qts. to get to the same level, so not a 6 qt. pan, it would have been overfilled. Too much oil can cause aeration. Some drag racers will run a qt. under for a reason.
